Newsletter from the Head – Week 6

Dear Parents and Guardians

As Half Term descends, I write to thank your children for their good humour, good nature and continued pride in all that they do. I have been blown away this week by the 78-strong cast of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. A truly superb production of talent, skill and perseverance but also a cast of children who are clearly making the most of the opportunities available. We are an inclusive school and will never say no to a child who wishes to be on the stage irrespective of ability; I could not be prouder of this approach.

Half Term will provide a much needed rest for the children before the final stage of the School year and for those in the midst of exams, an uninterrupted week of revision. The College remains open for your assistance but I ask that to allow our staff to fully recharge, non-urgent emails are not sent during this time; as an alternative, please do send anything to [email protected] if you require a response.

Scam Email Alert

Please be aware that some parents have reported an unofficial email arriving in their inbox pertaining to be from Denstone College. It is offering a scholarship and discount in fees if paid up-front immediately.

Please note that no such email would be sent from Denstone College and we ask parents to delete and take no further action.

We are investigating the matter and working with authorities. If you have received anything which appears suspicious, we would be grateful if you could make contact with us via telephone to discuss.

Fourth Form Summer Term Assessments

Parents of Fourth Form students are advised that we do not stage formal end of year exams for this year group but students will be sitting a range of subject assessments after half term, conducted in class and during normal lesson time. The students have information about the assessments on Teams and they will be given more detailed guidance and support by their individual subject teachers in the coming weeks.

These assessments are to give the students some experience of GCSE style assessment and also help track pupil progress and inform teaching.

Fourth Form Science Assessments: These will run each Tuesday on the 6th, 13th and 20th of June for Biology, Chemistry and Physics with each assessment 1 hour in length. The assessments are written by AQA and help the department to direct planned interventions for teaching and learning into the Fifth Form. Further information will be on Teams and students should prepare as they would for any other internal assessment. Please contact individual teachers if you would like any further guidance.

Year Book and Hoody Order Reminder – Upper Sixth Parents

We have been asked to remind parents that the online shop for yearbooks and hoodies closes on Monday 29 May. To place an order, please refer to the letter on the Parent Portal.

Upper Sixth Leavers’ Ball

This year our Upper Sixth pupils have chosen James Bond as the theme for their Leavers’ Ball which is being held on Saturday 8 July 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Stoke on Trent.

This black tie event will begin with a 7pm drinks reception followed by a 3 course dinner, which has been selected by our pupils. Live music, a disco and dancing will continue the celebrations until 12.30am.

Tickets are now available to purchase at £65 each, and pupils will also require a booked ticket. There is a limit of 3 tickets per family; however, if after all families have had an opportunity to book, spare tickets may be available to purchase.
