Sport Tennis

This is an LTA organised competition for U14’s played throughout the country in which the last round is played on the grass courts of Wimbledon itself.  Denstone held the first round of this competition on Saturday 12th May; it was a perfect afternoon for tennis with glorious sunshine and all the pupils played with great enthusiasm and a good, competitive sport

We had a record number of participants - 25 boys and 18 girls. The round robin format meant that everyone got to play several games and the winners of each group then progressed to the semi-finals.

The girls’ competition was won by Tara Wylie who had to fight off a superb challenge in the final from First Form pupil Isabelle Moriarty.  Tara and Isabelle had beaten Daisy Aspinall and Molly Smith in the semi’s.

The boys’ competition was highly competitive again with Sam Butler, Corey Mercieca, Alexander McMillan and Matthew Jones all winning their groups and progressing to the semi-finals where some superb tennis was played.

The final featured Sam Butler and Alexander McMillan, with Sam eventually winning after a closely fought battle..

As winners of the competition, Sam and Tara can go on to the County final round of the competition in July.

Well done to you all!
