U12A become Regional Hockey Champions

Congratulations to our U12A team who were crowned the champions at the Regional Hockey Tournament.

The Denstone team beat RGS Worcester in their first game of the tournament 3-1, but despite playing some nice hockey in their second match, Denstone lost 1-3 to King’s High Warwick. The third game of the tournament was played against Wrekin, which saw Denstone dominate the game with them going on to win 1-0, with the girls sitting comfortably in 2nd place in the group. It came down to the last game against Oakham to qualify for the semi-final. Oakham had been playing well throughout the tournament. However, the girls scored early on, causing them to grow in confidence. Carly was extremely aggressive in winning the ball back, helping to create a lot of Denstone attacks. Despite Oakham playing some great hockey, they were short on the final product, which Denstone did not lack, scoring three goals. Winning the game 3-0.

In the semi-final, Denstone came up against the other group winners, Bromsgrove. They were a strong outfit, having won all their games in the other pool. Denstone were enjoying their hockey despite the weather being horrendous. Annabelle and Caoimhe worked extremely hard in winning the ball. Kristina worked well up and down the right side of the pitch, scoring an excellent goal from the top of the D to give Denstone the lead. The girls all worked hard for one another, winning the game 1-0.

The final saw Denstone come up against King’s High Warwick again. Despite King’s beating Denstone in the group, the girls were not fazed by this and felt like they had something to prove. The game ended 2-2 meaning that the match was going to be determined by penalty flicks.

Freya had had an exceptional tournament and we were all confident in her to save a penalty flick. The three girls who stepped up were Carly, Annabelle and Kristina. Carly, as captain, won the toss and decided to go second. The first three flicks that were taken by both teams were all scored. It was now sudden death. In the third round of sudden death, Freya made a superb save, deflecting the ball wide with her stick, giving Denstone the edge in the shootout. This gave Kristina the opportunity to win the tournament. She showed great composure to score in the bottom left corner. Winning the U12 Regional Finals.

An amazing final, well done all.
