Performances, prizes and Ping Pong! Summer term has been sizzling and super for our Lower School students.

April

The start of term saw an historic whole school photograph taken, including our youngest Prep students, out on the beautiful cricket pitches.

On Thursday 28th April the Choral Concert in Chapel was an incredible event, featuring many Lower School students in a variety of work, culminating in the rousing and spectacular Gloria!

May

In May we welcomed Karl Hopwood for our annual Digital Safety talk. Karl sensitively tailored the talk to address the key questions and issues that each Lower School year group might encounter. Students enjoyed asking questions and contributing ideas. The Lower School Show saw us into the half term with big smiles on all our faces.

June and July

June hosted House BBQs and, later, House Dinners. It was delightful to see our Lower School students take joy in dressing up and getting excited for these lovely end of year events. Much fun was had, from taking friendship photos while waiting for the bus, to delivering funny speeches and dancing the night away. As July began we enjoyed Speeches and Prizegiving, with a wonderful speech by Mr Hartley, who will be sorely missed when he departs at the end of term. A lovely performance of a medley of songs from Oliver! by talented performers Robert, Imogen, Marcus, Izzy, Lizzie, Jack, Charlotte, Molly and Nick delighted students and parents alike.

Ping Pong Tournament

First formers Thomas and Harry arranged a Ping Pong tournament open to all Lower School students in June during activities. The event was a roaring success, with Harry coming 1st, Khaii 2nd and Oliver 3rd. It was a great testament to how much practise has gone in at breaks and lunches all year!

Performances
Summer is a term of performances and 2022 did not disappoint, from the stunning Choral concert in April to the lovely instrumental concert in May.

Lower School students excelled themselves in their performance of Oliver! This year over 65 Lower school students got involved, acting, singing, dancing and designing. Audiences were delighted with the spectacular show, which was shared with the whole of Lower School on Thursday 26th May during activities.

In the final week of term there was a lovely Concert in the Quad, followed by Sports Day with stand out performances and excellent participation from our enthusiastic and talented Lower School students.

Second Form Camp Out

The Great Second Form Camp Out (first of its kind) took place on Addies on 17th June on a beautiful, hot Friday evening. Second formers had a whale of a time. Parents and teachers helped the students erect their tents, many of which were beautifully bedecked with fairy lights and creature comforts. Their little camping village was a joy to behold.  Amongst the treats on offer were Dominos pizza, movies, Karaoke, a visit from Asmores Ice Cream van, rounders, football and hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows before bed. Second form had boundless energy and were even up playing football again at the crack of dawn, much to the detriment of Mrs Phillips’ beauty sleep!

Activity Week
Lower school students enjoyed many and varied activities in the final week of school. First form activities included a DT challenge, Fun Sport and trips to Croxden Abbey, Space Centre and Chester Zoo. Second form got adventurous with Mrs linell before art and debating later in the week. Third form visited the Holocaust Centre and Alton Towers, as well as being introduced to The World of Work, and CCF. Great fun was had by all.

Have a lovely Summer!
