GOLF COURSE

Denstone College’s exclusive 9 hole golf course is located within the grounds of the school. The course is relatively short but the narrow fairways and small greens provide a real challenge for players of all standards. There are 5 par fours and 4 par 3 threes. The 207 yard 4th hole is tree lined off the tee and has out of bounds down the left hand side and Nab brook and the old swimming pool along the right hand edge is the signature hole and has been rated one of the most challenging par threes in the country.
 
There is a full competition schedule which runs throughout the year with 18 hole competitions held most Sundays during the Lent and Summer terms as well as a Winter League series on Sunday mornings during the winter months. The most popular competitions are the Wednesday evening roll up’s which are shotgun starts with playing groups drawn just before the 6:30 tee off. A wide range of different 9 hole competitions take place with prizes awarded afterwards in the Tavern in the village.

Use of the Course

The course is used exclusively by the pupils on Mondays 4:00 till 5:30 (Summer timetable) 1:30: 3:30 (Winter timetable)  & Wednesdays 1:30 till 4:30 and Saturdays 1:30 till 4:00 during term time 

The location of the Prep School play area at the top of the course means that there is no play allowed on the holes around this part of the course when the pupils are using this area at breaks and lunch times. During these times the 5 hole loop consisting of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 9th holes can be played. 
All times when the course is open for play can be found on the HowDidIDo App and members MUST book in before playing using the App, which is also used for signing up for competitions, returning scores for competitions and for handicaps. 

 

Membership

The unique nature of the club and the very friendly atmosphere created by the members makes the club very popular. 

Membership is open to all pupils, parents, staff, and Old Denstonians and there are a limited number of Associate Membership’s available for the local community.
