A Warm Welcome
Welcome to Denstone College Senior School, where students from Year 7 to Year 11 embark on a transformative journey. Our holistic approach to education ensures that alongside academic excellence, students engage in a diverse range of extracurricular activities, including sports, the arts, and much more.
This balanced education nurtures resilience, confidence, and a well-rounded skill set, empowering students to navigate the challenges of adolescence and prepare for the demands of A Levels and life beyond school. At Denstone College, we believe in shaping individuals who are ready to thrive both academically and personally.
Pupils in the Lower School (Year 7 to Year 9 ) study a broad range of subjects with the objective of providing a solid academic foundation and enabling opportunities for all pupils to achieve across a range of subject areas.
All pupils in the Junior School attend lessons in: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Design Technology, Drama, English, French, Geography, History, Computing, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Religious Studies and Spanish.
In addition, First Form pupils experience library skills lessons whilst pupils in the Second Form and beyond study Spanish as an additional language. Specific PSHE lessons are provided to all First and Second Form groups and EAL (English as an Additional Language) is also available.

The GCSE years in our Middle School (Year 10 and 11) see increased academic momentum. Pupils choose three option subjects at the end of the Third Form, and at least one modern foreign language (in nearly all cases), to go with compulsory core GCSEs (Maths, English and Science), leading to a possible combination of 10 GCSEs. Core subjects are generally taught in subject-specific sets, with five or six sets in each core GCSE subject. In this way we believe the College is an optimal size, being big enough to offer a wide choice of options and appropriate setting, but small enough to offer good pastoral care and academic oversight. All pupils entering the Middle School will sit exams at the end of the Fifth Form. Towards the end of the Michaelmas Term in the Fifth Form, pupils begin the process of choosing their preferred Sixth Form options, with a structured system of guidance involving tutors and subject teachers supporting pupils and parents with these decisions. |

I believe Denstone is a very good school because of all the sporting opportunities and the very talented sports coaches. Also, the education is of the highest calibre. My favourite subject are PE and science as the teachers are outstanding and helpful, they make the lessons very enjoyable. The practicals we do every lesson are great and really help me learn. Moving here was a great choice.

One thing I like about Denstone is how friendly everyone is. The pupils are like your older brothers or sisters, and you are supported and their experiences with you. Another thing I like about Denstone is how much there is on offer. Everyday there is always something on, whether it’s the rugby team training or if it is students coming back from DofE.

I like Denstone because when I joined in 2nd Form, I was immediately welcomed. The sports facilities are great, and I enjoy playing cricket in games sessions and outside of school. Every child is included in various teams for matches and training. My favourite subjects are PE and English. PE because the teachers make the lessons fun and enjoyable. English because we learn new things every lesson and I love learning new things. I moved to Denstone because I heard so many good things about it. I can’t wait to carry on learning new things here.
Alma
Senior (4 - 5) Student
Alma was an outstanding student and a beloved member of the boarding house. She was awarded the 5th form Business prize and excelled academically, achieving impressive results in her exams, including two 9’s, two 8’s, three 7’s, and one 6. Alma’s time at the school was marked by her enthusiasm for getting involved in various activities, and she made numerous friends along the way. She was also an avid tennis player. Although she cried a lot when she left, her positive spirit and contribution to school life made her time here truly memorable.

Life in middle school boarding. When I first started boarding, I was nervous to go in at first, but when I met everyone and went into the boarding house everyone was nice and showed me around the boarding house. It took a few weeks to get settled in, but it was easier because everyone helped me. In boarding we have a prep session to do finish some prep. After prep we have free time until 9:15 which is the time to do the activities chosen on the day. When I got used to it, I started doing different activities after prep and had a lot of fun with the people in boarding. I really like boarding in south house because there are different activities every week which is incredibly fun and on weekends we go to various places and do different things I really enjoyed going to cliff lakes water park and had lots of fun with my friends and I also went to a theatre to watch a play.

Senior (4 - 5) Student
The Oliver Williams family chose Denstone College based on a friend's recommendation and the wide range of subjects offered, including sports, drama, and D&T. It wasn’t just about the core subjects like English and maths; the school provided a broader experience. Their children gained a unique richness by interacting with students from around the world. Their youngest especially thrived in the tight-knit rugby team, which reflected the supportive community at Denstone across sports, drama, and CCF. When asked, the family said Denstone means "pride in the changes they've seen in their children."
