Life as a International Boarder
We asked international student Bruno his experience of coming to Denstone and about life of as an international boarder, this is what he had to say.
My arrival at Denstone the first time was a mixture between excitement and nervousness, as I saw myself in this new place, so far away from my family and in a place that although extremely beautiful, if you are a new boarder, it can seem a little overwhelming. But after only spending a couple of hours at the College, I could see that settling in would be easier than I thought, as my future teachers and fellow students welcomed me with open hands, and at the moment I didn’t knew it, but some of the people I met there would end up being extremely important people in my life, I could even say my second family.
At first, adapting to this new routine and environment seemed quite difficult, but after a couple of days, I could already start to understand how things worked and after this moment, all has been amazing. Classes in denstone are spectacular, as you don’t learn like I am used to in Spain, but in a way where teachers involve the students and make them understand what they are learning. Also, the sport is amazing, as there is literally dozens of Activities to choose from, and me being a very sporty person, I think I have adapted quite well to this amazing sporting environment.
One of the most significant aspects of being an international boarder is the independence it fosters. Living away from home helped me develop resilience and a sense of responsibility. Simple tasks, like managing my schedule or joining communal activities, taught me valuable life skills. Yet, even in moments when I missed home, I never felt alone. I had always someone to talk to if I needed to.
In conclusion, Denstone has made me develop more in many areas of my life from mentality to physical, helping me become more mature and also more independent. My main objective when coming to Denstone was to get better at my English pronunciation and my overall understanding of the Language, which I think I have more or less accomplished, but after thinking about it, maybe in the Future when I am not in Denstone anymore, the main thing I get from this experience is that I have been able to meet so many different and amazing people with who I have made long-lasting friendships. (And also, being able to experience being Harry Potter 😉).
PS: Although I have only one complain, that is being that I don’t have that much free time to look for Animals as I would have liked, but it is understandable .
