A Unique Opportunity for A Level and GCSE Students
This event is a fantastic opportunity for students studying or looking to study A Level and GCSE science to gain first-hand insights from a leading figure in the field of natural history. Miranda Lowe’s expertise in crustacea and coral taxonomy, along with her extensive experience managing collections at one of the world’s most prestigious museums, will offer students a rare glimpse into the world of scientific research and museum curation.

Miranda has also published significant work on the museum’s collection of 182 glass sea creatures made by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka, blending art with science in a way that will resonate with students across disciplines. Her achievements highlight the interdisciplinary nature of science, making this event relevant not only for those pursuing traditional science subjects but also for students interested in art, history, and cultural studies.

Championing Diversity and Inclusion in Science
Beyond her scientific contributions, Miranda Lowe is a trailblazer in promoting diversity and inclusion within the scientific community. As a founder member of Museum Detox, she has been instrumental in advocating for greater representation and acknowledgment of colonial histories in museums and heritage organisations. In recognition of her efforts, she was awarded the Society for the History of Natural History President's Award in 2021 and was included in the BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour Power List 2020.
Her dedication to science communication and fostering an inclusive environment aligns perfectly with Denstone College’s values as an independent school committed to nurturing a diverse and supportive educational environment. Miranda’s story will undoubtedly inspire our students to think critically about the role of science in society and the importance of representation in all fields.
