Prep Music

Music at the Prep College is vibrant, diverse, and integral to the school community, reflecting the commitment to fostering creativity and personal growth in our pupils.

1. Wide Range of Opportunities
•    Choirs and Ensembles: Pupils often have the chance to join choirs, orchestras, or instrumental ensembles tailored to their age and skill level.
•    Instrumental Lessons: Private or group lessons on a variety of instruments are usually available, catering to both beginners and more advanced players.

2. Performances and Events
•    Regular Concerts: Students showcase their talents at seasonal concerts, school assemblies, and special events like Christmas services (e.g., Christingle).

3. Curricular Music Education
•    Classroom Lessons: Music is often part of the curriculum, teaching pupils about musical theory, history, and appreciation.

4. Inclusive and Supportive
•    Emphasis on participation ensures all pupils can explore music, whether through singing, playing an instrument, or simply appreciating the art.

5. Special Highlights
•    Collaboration with the Senior School allows Prep students to benefit from advanced resources or expertise.

Head of Prep Music, Mrs Johns says: Music at the Prep has been an absolute joy to watch grow. Both Show Choir and especially Chapel Choir have doubled in size and are currently at 30! The many rehearsals for both choirs have culminated in some very special performances.

Firstly, Show Choir singing in the Senior Michaelmas Concert. They sang their hearts out in a piece aptly called 'Shine' by M & A Podd, which they really did do! They also co-ordinated some groovy dance moves in a Christmas number called Christmas Dance by Darren Criss. Chapel Choir were equally outstanding in their performance of The Gift I'll Give by Shawna Edwards in the very moving Carols by Candlelight and then the next morning in the Prep Carol service. They also sang at the Harvest Service alongside Prep 6 who sang as a year group a song called One World. All term Chapel Choir have been very much a part of the Eucharist services singing anthems.

We have had three incredibly polished and confident Teatime Concerts from Reception through to Year 6. One of which was prep 5 and 6 joining with Senior School 1st and 2nd Form. All the soloists were well rehearsed and played with so much commitment to their instruments.

Pre-Prep Choir have excelled themselves singing so beautifully in their nativity performance. All the songs were sung with so much passion and a real understanding of the nativity story.

Both Prep Band and Percussion Club continue to work hard every week in their rehearsals ready to dazzle and shine in the joint concerts with the Senior School next term.
