Newsletter - The Prep The Prep at Denstone College

Week 11 has been yet another busy week for us all here at The Prep, but also a sombre one, as we marked Remembrance Day. On Monday, Reverend Darren led our Remembrance Service, which was a moving occasion. A particular highlight, I'm sure all in attendance would agree, was the touching performance of The Last Post by Charlie. I would like to thank all the parents who joined us in our commemoration.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind pupils who take coaches and minibuses that if your child has a mobile phone, these are to be used in an emergency only. Therefore, mobile phones are to remain in pupil bags at all times during the journeys to and from school. They are to be handed in to Mrs Heron upon arrival at school. Could parents please reinforce this with your son/ daughter. I have also been made aware of a Prep 6 Pupil WhatsApp group and would encourage parents of pupils participating in this group to check that messages are appropriate.

Future Important Dates

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week, and we will be kicking it off with Odd Socks Day on Monday 14 November. Children are encouraged to come into school wearing odd socks. It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! As well as wearing odd socks, children will take part in a number of activities during the week to support Anti-Bullying.

Also on Monday, we have sports team photographs in the morning and 6B will take part in a D&T workshop in afternoon.

Friday 18 November, we will be celebrating Children in Need Day. It is a non-uniform day, and students (and staff!) should wear their zaniest spotty outfits.

The PTFA wish to ask parents to bring in their jam jar and teddy bear donations during the week ending Friday 2 December.

Finally, just a reminder that this year’s Christmas Market will be held on Saturday 19 November in the Drill Hall from 12-4pm. This wonderful event will feature a number of fantastic food, drink, homeware, accessories and gift stalls from local industries and suppliers. It would be great to see you all there.
