Lent Term Week 10 Head of Prep Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. As we round up another exciting week at The Prep, I wanted to take a moment to update you on some important happenings and upcoming events.  Firstly, a huge round of applause to our Prep pupils and our dedicated music staff for the delightful teatime concert on Tuesday.

In other news, the results for the World Book Day spoon competition were announced in assembly this week, marking yet another successful celebration of literature. A special thanks to Mrs Lea and Mrs Chadwick for their outstanding efforts in ensuring each child had a book to enjoy. Let's continue to foster a love for reading by encouraging our children to explore new books.

Our Pre-Prep children had a super time at the gymnastics centre. Thanks to the staff at Uttoxeter Gymnastics Centre and the dedicated Prep staff who make these experiences possible.

Prep 4 enjoyed their day at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, especially the Bollywood dancing workshop. Please have a look at free events in the holidays at Stoke Museum and Art Gallery, using the links.

Hockey Success

Congratulations to our girls U11 hockey team who won the Staffordshire Championships. We look forward to travelling to Rugby School to enter into the Midlands Championships on Wednesday. We will be playing against the winners from Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Shropshire. It is the first time that the Prep have ever won the county championships so a huge well done to all the players involved.

Prep 6 Transition Meeting – Monday 18 March

Please see the parent portal for details on the above meeting.

On Tuesday next week, we bid farewell to Mrs. Cowley, our exceptional art teacher, who will be pursuing a full-time position, we wish her all the best in her future endeavours. College and Prep staff are excited to use this opportunity to link art and photography into the curriculum, hopefully entering the National Gallery Take One Picture Programme.

Shelter-In

As a school, we regularly perform drills of our fire procedures, to help keep pupils and staff safe and calm, should the alarm sound. In a similar vein, next week we will be conducting an unannounced drill of our 'Shelter-In' procedure, which is designed for those occasions when safety may require pupils and staff to remain securely indoors as far as possible. We will use the drill to educate the pupils about how to behave should such a situation ever arise and to evaluate and modify any aspects of the procedure as necessary. The drill is, of course, nothing for pupils or parents to be alarmed about.

College Selwyn House Charity Car Wash – Wednesday 20 March

Selwyn House at the College are running a carwash next Wednesday afternoon from 1330 until 1600 to raise money for local charities. Selwyn pupils will be around the Sports Hall and main car park; please just pop along and organise for your car to be washed and polished whilst you enjoy watching some sport. The cost is just £5. The team will leave your car gleaming and it’s all for good causes.

On a more practical note, we have had reported cases of hair lice, so we kindly ask parents to check their children's hair regularly to prevent any further spread.

Looking ahead, please remember to book your time for Parent's Evening on 21 March in the drill hall. Reports will be issued on Monday 18 March via the parent portal in iSAMS.

As always, remember to keep an eye on our weekly newsletter for upcoming events and invitations. We understand the significance of parent and family involvement in your child's education, which is why we make sure to include all events that parents are invited to in our newsletter.

Finally, we invite all parents to join us for the End of Term assembly on Friday, 22 March, at 0900 in the drill hall. It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our pupils' achievements together.

Please note that there will be no after-school clubs on Thursday of next week due to Parents Evening, except for after-school prep, which will continue as usual until 1800. On Friday, 22 March, school will close at 1545, and after-school care will be available until 1630 for coach children.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
