Week 11 Head of Prep Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well. It has been another eventful and enriching week at our Prep School, and I'm delighted to share some highlights with you.

The Prep started the week with Odd Socks Day, sending a powerful message that we celebrate our differences and the unique qualities that each of our pupils bring to our community.  Various year groups had the opportunity to embark on educational trips this week, which not only added depth to their learning experiences but also allowed them to explore new horizons outside the classroom.  For our Prep 6 students, it was a significant week as they spent a day at the college. This experience is an essential part of their transition to the college, providing valuable insights into what lies ahead in their academic journey.  Despite some challenging weather conditions, Mr. Bettaney and our dedicated Games staff have been tirelessly trying to organise and rearrange fixtures, ensuring that our students continue to engage in sports activities, despite of the weather. I am sure you will agree a very difficult job.  I would like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our staff members. Their hard work and dedication play a crucial role in ensuring our pupils have access to fantastic opportunities in various areas of their education.

As the week draws to a close, we finish off with Children in Need, further highlighting the spirit of giving and community here at the Prep. And let's not forget the thrilling Zombie sleepover that Prep 6 may enjoy, creating unforgettable memories.

Looking ahead, next week promises to be just as action-packed, so please keep a close eye on the calendar for upcoming events and activities.

As we look forward to the coming week, here are some important reminders:

Christmas Fair

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Christmas Fair this Saturday from 12-4pm, in the Drill Hall. There will be a variety of stalls including food and drinks and an Elf Workshop for the youngest members of our community. Additionally, Denstone Village will be hosting a Christmas Market, and the switching on of their Christmas lights on Sunday 19 November beginning at 4pm; supporting our local community is so important so please do mark this fun occasion in your diary.

SchoolBlazer Flash Sale

Schoolblazer will be running a flash sale from Monday 20 – Tuesday 21 November 2023. There will be 20% off ALL in-stock items online at schoolblazer.com during the sale period, while stocks last.

Please note that this is a universal sale organised by our supplier and we cannot guarantee when the next one will be. If you wish to make the transition to the new uniform ahead of the September 2024 deadline, this may be a good opportunity.

Michaelmas Music Concert

Thursday 23 November is the Michaelmas Music Concert which starts at 1900 in the Drill Hall.

Prep Show Choir, Prep Band and Prep Drum Club will be joining the Senior school in this exciting concert. The concert is open to all to watch, your support will be very much appreciated.  Rehearsals will take place within school hours. Please note there will be NO rehearsals after school, therefore please make arrangements to pick up your child at your usual time. Please return your child for 1830 to the Drill Hall in full school uniform ready for the concert.  Many thanks for your support towards this event.

Non-Uniform Day

Please mark your calendars for next Friday, 24 November, as it is a non-uniform day. We kindly ask children to bring in a donation for Oaks’ chosen charity, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.  As it is Exeat weekend, there will be no clubs but Prep will be available until 1800 as usual. Please be aware that school coaches will leave early at 1630.

PTFA Pre-loved Book Sale & Cupcake Friday

On Friday 24 November, the PTFA are holding a second-hand book sale. Donations of age-appropriate books can be dropped off to Helen Heron. This is a great chance for a pre-Christmas clear-out! Unsold books will go to charity.  The book sale will run alongside Cupcake Friday, so donations of shop-bought, nut-free cakes would also be gratefully accepted. Thank you as always for your support and generosity. Cakes should be left with Helen Heron on Friday morning. Please send your child with £1 to purchase a cake if you wish them to do so

Prep Informal Music Recital

In response to requests we are excitedly holding another Prep Informal Music Recital on Thursday 30 November starting at 1615 in the Senior School Music Room. Drinks are available on arrival from 1545 onwards. Advance notice will given if your child will be performing and the concert is open to all to watch.
